Kate Jackson, known for her roles in “Charlie’s Angels” and “James at 15,” faced breast cancer twice. During her first diagnosis in 1987, she decided to get a mammogram after waking up with a “premonition.” She recalled, “It was out of the blue, yet totally clear.” The mammogram revealed a small, cancerous tumor in her left breast. Four days later, she had a lumpectomy and underwent radiation therapy.
Just two years after her initial diagnosis, Jackson found another cluster of cancer cells in the same breast during a routine mammogram. Despite the emotional toll, she stated, “The range of emotions you go through is remarkable. But I genuinely made the choice to think positively.”
Both times, her treatment included a lumpectomy, radiation, and eventually partial mastectomy with restorative plastic surgery. “Thank God, none of my lymph nodes were infected. I feel really lucky,” she said, sharing the good news after her surgery.
Breast cancer recurrence may involve mastectomy and other treatments like hormone therapy and chemotherapy. Jackson’s story underlines the importance of regular mammograms for early detection and treatment.
