Two police officers lost their lives in a tragic traffic stop in Virginia Beach late Friday night.
Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese pulled over a Hyundai Sonata on February 21, 2025, at 11:27 p.m., due to an expired license plate. The driver stopped at a dead end after first refusing to stop. He resisted orders and became combative when confronted.
Both officers were shot when the driver pulled out a handgun during a struggle that followed their exit. He fired again as they lay helpless, wounding them fatally before he ran away. Backup came right away and started looking. Later, the suspect was discovered dead in a nearby shed after he had shot himself.
