Rita Pavone rose to fame in the 1960s, and her encounter with Elvis changed her life forever.

Rita Pavone appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in the 1960s with Elvis Presley, Diana Ross, and Paul Anka. She was better renowned in Italy than America.

Rita started her career winning Rome’s “Rally of the Unknown.” Her father’s letter to the tournament organizer spared her from quitting. She won, starting her career.

Her voice, style, and international hit parades set her apart. She believed sincerity doesn’t require conformity and her boyish appearance questioned gender norms.

She released CDs and went on The Ed Sullivan Show after becoming famous in Italy. This Nashville recording studio encounter with Elvis Presley was a career highlight. Elvis recognized and gave her a painting to remember.

Rita was successful in Italy and other countries but failed in the US, notably during “Beatlemania.” She became an Italian TV personality after returning.

Rita Pavone married Teddy Reno, her supervisor, despite their age difference, changing her life. She performed at Sanremo and Dancing with the Stars.

Her meeting Elvis Presley after winning a talent competition proves her music legend status. Teddy and she live in Ticino, Switzerland.
