Keanu Reeves Revealed He’s Been ‘Married’ To Winona Ryder For Almost 30 Years

Keanu Reeves isn’t the type to parade his partner around town. Having that many people have an opinion is problematic. Reeves publicly stated that he and Winona Ryder were still married. “We’d been married for 30 years.”

It wasn’t your typical wedding with the white dress, the bouquet, and enough relatives and friends to keep you from being lonely for quite some time. They even had a ceremony, but instead of doing it in a church with all of their friends and family, they did it on a movie set with a full crew. Obviously, this did not take place in “real life,” but rather, it occurred during the making of the 1992 picture Dracula.

For the wedding scene, “we did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests,” Reeves revealed. When questioned if they remain legally wed, Reeves said, “Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married, under the eyes of God.”

Francis Ford Coppola helmed the new “Dracula” film. Using a real church as the location would be aesthetically beautiful and help him achieve his goal of making the scene feel as real as possible. When talking about what was important to the director, he stressed the importance of being genuine. “Having the real wedding ceremony as it might be in that religion [Greek Orthodox Christianity] would be beautiful,” he said.

He himself has conceded that the wedding scene may be more plausible than was originally believed. “This is pretty authentic and I think very beautiful, because we actually did the ceremony and had the priest do the ceremony,” Coppola said. “So in a sense, when we were all done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of this scene and this ceremony.”

As part of their promotion for the 2018 film “Destination Wedding,” Entertainment Weekly conducted an interview with the couple to learn more about their dynamic. According to Ryder, their vows have convinced God that they are married. Even if it was just for a movie set. “So I think we’re married,” she said. “No, I swear to God, I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So, I think we’re married.”

They were both rumored to have secretly harbored long-term feelings for one another. Neither one took advantage of the attraction nor did they realize it was reciprocal.

Keanu and Winona have been pals for a very long time.

Neither “Dracula” nor any other film they appeared in together was their debut or final screen appearance. Their filmography includes “Destination Wedding,” in which they played lead roles, and “A Scanner Darkly” and “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee,” in which they played supporting roles. Despite this, they are friends as well as colleagues. Neither of them ever dated each other, but they are both happy in committed relationships with other people.

Actress Sandra Bullock is also a close friend of Reeve’s. She voiced her view in the December issue of Esquire. She believes they would have been happy together and thrived when so many others failed. It’s just that they didn’t give each other a chance.

“Keanu’s a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated,” said Bullock.

“I don’t think there’s anyone who has something horrible to say about him. So maybe we could have survived. I don’t know. But we didn’t have to survive anything.”

She added: “We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together. And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being.“

Finally, she justifies her actions by saying: “Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not.”
