Cher promises she ‘will leave’ the country if Donald Trump wins the 2024 presidential election

Cher has made it clear that if Donald Trump wins the 2024 U.S. presidential election, she is prepared to leave the country. The pop legend shared this sentiment during a recent interview with The Guardian, expressing strong feelings about the possibility of another Trump presidency.

“I almost got an ulcer the last time,” she revealed, referring to Trump’s previous term. “If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country].” Cher’s concerns stem in part from Trump’s rollback of nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ individuals during his presidency, a policy change that deeply troubled the singer.

Cher also voiced her dismay over the increasing number of legislative measures targeting the LGBTQ community, particularly transgender rights. “It’s something like 500 bills they’re trying to pass,” she said, adding that she recently spent time with two trans women and emphasized the importance of standing in solidarity. With a personal connection to the issue—her child, Chaz Bono, is transgender—Cher feels a deep responsibility to advocate for trans rights. “We’ve got to stand together,” she remarked, while expressing uncertainty about what the ultimate goal of these anti-trans bills might be.

This isn’t the first time Cher has openly criticized Trump. During his 2020 presidency, she stated that she disliked referring to him as president, remarking that he seemed more focused on watching TV than governing. Cher also predicted that if Trump lost the election, he would react destructively. “If Trump can’t be in the White House, he’s going to burn it down,” she said, characterizing him as vindictive and driven by self-preservation. She added, “I think he’s fighting so hard because he’s going to be prosecuted when he gets out of the White House.”

Cher’s outspoken stance on political matters, particularly regarding Trump and LGBTQ rights, continues to make headlines, reflecting her long-standing commitment to social justice and advocacy.
