Another viral success was COLOR MUSIC’s version of “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay. The performance, uploaded on Christmas Day in 2018, exceeded 82 million views as the choir’s popularity surged. So many talented children wanted to participate that the directors had to enlarge the ensemble four times.

In one endearing performance, the boys are dressed in black shirts and trousers with gold ties, while the girls wear black dresses, gold belts and tidy buns. Although the children are not yet ten, their presentation is remarkably polished. Still, the costumes and strong singing are not the main reasons the performance stands out.

Its defining quality is the children’s enthusiasm. Several girls move with the music, wave their hands and occasionally shimmy, adding warmth and spontaneity to the number. The camera does not show the audience, but its reaction is clear when the song ends with loud stamping, cheering and applause.

The war has put this talent and happiness at risk while giving the choir’s appearances greater responsibility. At a Berlin concert supporting aid for Ukraine, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin brought joy to the sombre occasion by asking COLOR MUSIC to perform “Something Just Like This” with him onstage. The children were thrilled to sing beside the famous musician, but they handled the exceptional opportunity with poise and clearly treasured the experience.
