Allred’s career began years before this global recognition. In 2008, at the age of 19, she was signed to the American record label Island Def Jam Music after singer Ne-Yo discovered her talent on YouTube. She later competed on the third season of America’s Got Talent in 2012, though she was eliminated early in the live playoffs. Allred later attributed that early exit to her hesitation to share her personal life story with the audience at the time, a contrast to the vulnerability she displays today. This early setback did not deter her, as she continued to refine her craft and seek new opportunities to showcase her range.
Her professional trajectory continued to evolve as other prominent artists took notice of her work. In 2019, Michael Bublé sought her out after watching The Greatest Showman and realizing that Rebecca Ferguson was not the actual voice behind the beautiful song. His own search led him to Allred, and they collaborated on the track “Help Me Make It Through The Night” for his album, Love. By 2021, she had joined Italian operatic tenor Andrea Bocelli for several performances during his tour across the United States, after the two had previously sung together in Saudi Arabia. Bocelli praised her as a versatile musician who was truly raised in the arts, noting his delight at having the opportunity to perform with her again.
That same year, Allred released her debut six-song album, titled Late Bloomer. The project’s lead single, “This Summer,” served as a personal love letter to anyone who felt lost, mirroring the uncertainty she experienced during the pandemic. Having spent much of her early career working in the background, Allred is now successfully establishing herself as a solo artist in her own right. The critically-acclaimed vocalist and songwriter appears to be finding her footing away from the glamorous persona that came with the platinum-selling single, and she is clearly an artist who deserves to shine in her own light. While her career has been a rollercoaster to date, she remains active in the music industry, continuing to perform and share her work as she builds a distinct identity as a singer and songwriter, with her latest known status being her continued pursuit of a solo career.
