Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton share stage for one last time on “Islands in the Stream”

The decision to embark on a final tour was prompted by Rogers’ declining health. Having officially announced his retirement in 2015, he performed across 2016 and 2017. Although he had initially planned to continue his touring schedule into 2018, he eventually had to cancel those remaining dates following specific medical advice regarding various health challenges, which included a diagnosis of bladder cancer. The career of the country legend was defined by massive commercial success; “Islands in the Stream” alone achieved three-times Platinum status in the United States. Their collaborative history also included the 1980 hit “Lady,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks and remains his longest-running number one single on that chart, further cementing the magic they created whenever they worked together.

Following his retirement from the stage, Kenny Rogers lived quietly until his passing. He died at his home on March 20, 2020, at the age of 81, with his death attributed to natural causes. The final performance at the Bridgestone Arena remains a lasting, poignant testament to the enduring musical bond and genuine affection shared between two of country music’s most celebrated and beloved figures.
