Dancing Nuns Take On Viral Dance Challenge To Help “Cheer People Up” During Difficult Times

Ontario, Canada’s Soli Sisters were among the Catholic participants. In addition to teaching the Catholic faith and providing care for elderly people, they tackled the dance trend with the aim of raising people’s spirits. Their YouTube caption presented the performance as an expression of joy and Christian hope during the pandemic, included an appeal to rejoice in the Lord, and conveyed Eastertide greetings from the SOLI Sisters.

The Soli Sisters’ performance exceeded 3.5 million views on YouTube alone and attracted positive comments from viewers across the world. Their recording was one of several prominent challenge entries to emerge during the preceding 12 months.

Another favored contribution featured children from slum communities in Uganda, whose dancing and visible happiness were highlighted. The Swiss Police and the Irish gardai later revived interest in the challenge near the end of the year. They directly invited other European police forces to produce comparable recordings, with the stated purpose of helping to improve public spirits.

More institutional versions followed, including entries from healthcare workers and Dogs Trust. The challenge continued to welcome anyone who wanted to participate and provided a shared activity during an unusually difficult year. The source concluded by encouraging people to record a dance, publish it through their chosen social network, and use #JerusalemaChallenge for the possibility of becoming another viral entry.
