In the counselor’s office, Peter acknowledged that his fear of failure had hardened into entitlement. He had measured security by what he could purchase and treated my inheritance as rescue money. I admitted that I had defended him to Mom so fiercely that I ignored warning signs and stopped trusting my own judgment.
