Nina Howland Turns Four Chairs on The Voice with a Soulful Blues Audition

Theatre had also been part of her life from an early age. Her parents are Broadway composer Jason Howland and director Dani Davis, and she developed her craft while growing up around that world. Even so, appearing alone on The Voice required a different approach from working within an ensemble company.

Howland had some prior experience as a featured solo performer, appearing during Hugh Jackman’s 2025 concert engagement at Radio City Music Hall. Her Blind Audition, however, introduced her independently to a television audience numbering in the millions. Selecting a blues standard instead of a show tune allowed her to set aside theatrical polish and demonstrate direct, soulful control. Raitt had performed the same song on the UK program The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1976.

Online interest followed quickly. In a matter of days, the audition exceeded 1.4 million YouTube views. Viewers praised Howland for maintaining the song’s foundations while giving it a distinct identity. One commenter described her voice as sassy and powerful, while others cited her control and individual tone in suggesting she could become a Season 30 frontrunner.

The posted clip stopped just before Howland disclosed which team she would join. After all four coaches made their cases, the edit deliberately withheld her answer, leaving the decision for the complete audition. That full segment was scheduled to air on October 5, 2026.
