The Eagles ended a 14-year hiatus to deliver this iconic cut of “Take It Easy” live for MTV, so get ready to melt when you hear the greatest vocal quintet in rock back in the saddle once more

Meisner was the featured singer on “Take It to the Limit,” and his signature falsetto hooks were the performance’s defining vocal element. The 1977 recording consequently provides an earlier counterpart to the MTV material, capturing Meisner’s prominent role years before Schmit appeared as the bassist and vocalist in the reunited 1994 lineup.

A reunion album followed the MTV concert and was released on November 8, 1994. It drew directly from the April special, using 11 live recordings from the program, while also adding four new songs made in the studio. Its title came from an old joke by Henley that the Eagles would never reunite after their 1980 separation.

That remark was overturned when the five musicians from The Long Run resumed working together for the MTV performance and the subsequent release. The reunion album went on to reach number one in the United States and achieved nine-times Platinum status.
