That tiny detail changed what the sign actually advertised: a root beer stand, not alcohol at all. What happened next would carry the teenager’s tiny business far beyond his neighborhood, turning an uncomfortable misunderstanding into a sudden rush for root beer.

A Sign That Raised Eyebrows

Seth Parker wanted his neighborhood drink stand to get noticed, and his sign certainly delivered. In large lettering, it advertised ‘ICE COLD BEER.’ Above the attention-grabbing word, he had added ‘ROOT’ in tiny letters, easy for a passerby to miss entirely.

Police Get Involved

Officers who visited discovered a young entrepreneur selling an ordinary soft drink, not beer at all. What initially appeared troubling turned out to be a playful marketing trick, with the smallest lettering carrying the most important information.

From Misunderstanding to Viral Sensation

Rather than letting the encounter end there, the Brigham City Police Department shared Seth’s clever setup on Facebook. Their post showed the stand and the sign’s easily overlooked distinction.

The post brought his venture an audience well beyond the local streets. Interest grew quickly, and customers soon bought up his supply.

Seth sold out of his root beer, a memorable finish for a small business whose biggest advertisement became the very misunderstanding that had brought officers over in the first place.
