The Symbol Resurfaces

Coordinates he’d long dismissed as noise suddenly mattered, pointing back toward the same unanswered question: what was hidden beneath the cliff, and why had the red symbol kept appearing near it.

Anonymous tips arrived constantly now, from burner accounts and pay phones. The people behind them sounded like they had been waiting years for someone, anyone, to finally listen.

The Price of Silence

Then came the contracts. Jonathan stared at them until the words blurred, each clause a carefully sharpened blade aimed at his future. They offered him protection, money, even a quiet promotion, all in exchange for one simple act: walking away.

All he had to do was sign and agree that the red symbol meant nothing. The object under the cliff was just weather, just rock, just pareidolia, nothing more than a trick of the eye.

But the tips kept coming anyway, insistent and unwilling to stop.

Walls of Evidence

Jonathan printed everything he had, old articles and new leaks alike, and began taping them to his walls until his apartment felt like a crime scene.

Somewhere between fear and fury, his hands stopped shaking. He understood now that if the truth was dangerous enough to erase careers and swallow sources whole, exposing it was the only protection he had left.

Jonathan closed his laptop. He grabbed his camera. Then he walked out the door, before he could change his mind.
