Sarah Palin Asks for Prayers as Partner Ron Duguay Fights Stage 4 Cancer

That next chapter has meant long hospital stays, hard news, and a family leaning on each other for strength. The former Alaska Governor and vice presidential nominee has stepped into a steady, supportive role for Duguay, her longtime partner, as he confronts a serious illness.

The Diagnosis and Family’s Public Appeal

Duguay, the retired hockey player, is 69 years old. His family announced in February that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, and they launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with the costs of his care.

His daughter, Shay Thomas, has also spoken publicly, posting from her father’s bedside to ask supporters for prayers. The family’s appeals reflect how serious and uncertain the road ahead has become.

Palin’s Role as a Steady Presence

Palin shared an Instagram photograph of herself holding Duguay’s hand during one of his hospitalizations. “Prayers for Ron Duguay so appreciated,” she wrote, according to Us Weekly.

Duguay’s illness has brought other setbacks, including a July collapse attributed to dehydration that damaged his teeth. Throughout his treatment, Thomas has described Palin as a dependable presence for the entire family, recalling that Palin stayed at the hospital for five days while Duguay underwent surgery involving his colon and liver.

Although distance and caregiving responsibilities complicate visits, Thomas said Palin would take a red-eye flight on short notice whenever needed—a practical expression of support during an uncertain time.
