The Priest, the Nun, and a Bible Verse That Doesn’t Exist

Back at church, he hurried to consult his Bible—only to discover that the joke took a wicked turn hinging on what he thought he knew about scripture.

A Distracting Drive

A priest offered a nun a ride to her convent. When she settled into the passenger seat, her gown shifted, exposing part of her leg. Distracted, he nearly lost control of the car.

After steadying the wheel, he reached toward her knee. “Father, remember Psalm 129?” she asked. He withdrew his hand immediately.

A little farther down the road, he tried again, and received the same composed reminder. “Forgive me, Sister,” he muttered. “The flesh is weak.”

A Quiet Exit, A Nagging Question

At the convent, she stepped out without another word, leaving him alone with his embarrassment and a nagging question.

Checking the Scripture

The punchline supplies an invented verse: “Go forth and seek; further up, you will find glory.” Suddenly, her warning seemed a lot less straightforward than he’d assumed.

The cheeky moral? Know your references before assuming you understand the message. And check this one especially carefully: that quotation isn’t actually in Psalm 129.
