At 35,000 Feet, a Hair-Whipping Seatmate Got a Lesson She Didn’t See Coming

…She turned around—long acrylic nails, glossy overfilled lips, gum snapping between her teeth—and shrugged. “It’s hair,” she said. “It’s in my drink,” I replied. She rolled her eyes, tossed it forward, and went back to her phone.

A Curtain of Hair

Five minutes later it happened again, this time dragging through my lunch. “Ma’am, please,” I said. She spun around and snapped, “Don’t touch my hair.” “It’s touching my food.” “Then move your food.”

A woman across the aisle muttered, “Seriously?” The blonde just blew a bubble with her gum and asked, “Why is everyone so dramatic?”

Polite Requests Ignored

A flight attendant finally stepped in and asked her to keep her hair on her side. “Fine,” she said. The moment the attendant walked away, she looked back at me, smiled, and whipped her hair over the seat again. It hit my cheek. “Oops.”

That was when I stopped asking.

The Hundred-Dollar Distraction

I waited until she was scrolling through her phone, then slipped a $100 bill from my purse and let it fall near her feet. “Sweetheart?” I said. “I think something fell out of your bag.”

Her eyes lit up at the sight of the money. She bent down, snatched it, and tucked it into her purse without ever asking if it was hers. “Thanks,” she said. “Of course,” I answered.

While she was bent over, I did one small thing. Then I sat back and waited.

Chaos in the Cabin

When she straightened up, a teenage boy across the aisle snorted. His mother elbowed him, though she was clearly trying not to laugh herself. Then another passenger noticed. And another.

“What?” the blonde demanded, frowning. “What are you all staring at?” No one answered. She grabbed her phone, flipped to the front camera, and stared at the screen—then screamed loud enough to make half the cabin jump.

“You old witch!” she shouted, twisting toward me and grabbing at her extensions. “What did you do to me?!”

The flight attendant rushed over. “Ma’am, please sit down.” “I want off this plane!” the woman yelled. The attendant blinked. “Ma’am… we’re at thirty-five thousand feet.” “I don’t care!” she shot back. “Look what she did to me!”
