Don’t sleep on this legendary George Harrison and Eric Clapton guitar duel on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” live in ’87, because the six-string icons leave their fretboards smokin’ here!

“Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)” appeared on Harrison’s 1973 record Living in the Material World. Calls the uplifting ballad the album’s high point and emphasizes the positive message of its lyrics. It describes hearing Harrison perform the song live as a feel-good experience, separate from the ensemble presentation of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” at the Prince’s Trust event.

The Beatles issued “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” in 1968 as the seventh song on their self-titled release, more commonly called The White Album. Harrison accumulated comparatively few songwriting credits with the group, but the publication considers the compositions he did contribute particularly strong and includes this track among them.

Harrison’s writing process drew on the I Ching, an ancient Chinese philosophical text generally translated as the Book of Changes. He conducted an exercise based on randomness, deciding to open a book and create a song from the first thing that caught his attention. His premise was that the words he encountered would be connected to that particular instant.

In The Beatles Anthology, Harrison explained how the experiment unfolded. After selecting and opening a book at random, he encountered the phrase “gently weeps.” He then set the volume aside and started writing the song from those words.
