John Legend is widely recognized as one of the most talented singers of his generation, with millions of fans around the globe. However, some of his biggest admirers might be the ones he shares his home with.
Recently, John Legend appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden, where he shared some amusing and sometimes embarrassing moments involving his children.
Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen are parents to three children. Their eldest, Luna, was born in 2016, followed by their son Miles in 2018. Just a few months ago, they welcomed their third child, Esti. Esti’s arrival came after the couple experienced the heartbreaking loss of a previous pregnancy, a moment they publicly shared with their fans.
During his interview, Legend recounted how his children often request to hear his music during their morning school drop-off. He shared, “They do, especially my son. He knows all my songs and he’s like Rain Man with the lengths of the songs. He remembers how long each song is and he’s like, ‘Actually ‘Green Light’ is a little longer than this one, it’s 3:19.’”
Legend admitted that it can be a bit embarrassing to blast his own music while dropping his kids off at school. This feeling is heightened by the fact that the school is also attended by the children of other celebrities, such as Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Legend humorously noted, “I’m pulling up, playing my music loud and it’s embarrassing. No, [JAY-Z]’s not playing ‘Reasonable Doubt’ in the car with his kids — I don’t think, I don’t hear it at least!”
The couple also recently shared the story behind their daughter’s name. Teigen recalled, “We were on vacation. We got married in Italy and I was looking up at the hotel and I kept seeing the Este of it, and then I was like, ‘I love the name Este.’ I was just playing around with it and then we came up with Esti.” Interestingly, after naming her, they discovered a family connection. “John, after we named her Esti, learned that it was actually his great-grandmother’s name,” Teigen revealed. “… I guess maybe it was Esther and then they turned it to Esti.”
