Fitness Guru Richard Simmons’ Cause of Death Revealed

The cause of fitness icon Richard Simmons’ death has been officially revealed, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his sudden passing in July.

On August 21, the Simmons family confirmed that Richard Simmons’ death was ruled accidental. His brother, Lenny Simmons, received the news from the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office, according to the family’s spokesperson, Tom Estey.

“The Coroner informed Lenny that Richard’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls, with heart disease as a contributing factor,” Tom Estey stated. Additionally, the toxicology report showed no substances other than prescribed medication.

Following the clarification of Richard’s cause of death, the Simmons family expressed their appreciation for the public’s support. “The Family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss,” said Tom Estey.

In a July interview, Lenny reflected on his brother’s life, emphasizing the positive impact Richard had on countless individuals. “He truly cared about people. He called, wrote, and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer help,” Lenny shared.

Lenny also encouraged the public to celebrate Richard’s life rather than mourn. “I don’t want people to be sad about my brother. I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives. So don’t be sad. Celebrate his life,” he added.

Before his death, Richard continued to engage with his fans through social media. On July 14, his team shared the final image and caption Richard had planned, showing him in an orange NASA astronaut suit. The caption read, “Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard,” reflecting his deep connection with his followers until the end.

Just days before his passing, Richard, who celebrated his birthday on July 12, shared his plans for a simple 76th birthday. He joked about skipping traditional cake in favor of a zucchini, reflecting his vegetarian lifestyle, and mentioned he might indulge in “maybe one Pepperidge Farm Milano cookie.”

Although his birthday plans were modest, Richard expressed a deep appreciation for life. “I feel good!” he shared, conveying his gratitude for being alive. “I’ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people.”

Despite maintaining his commitment to helping others, Richard had largely stepped away from the public eye beginning in 2014. By November 2016, he had closed his iconic Beverly Hills fitness studio, Slimmons, sparking speculation and concern about his well-being. Rumors circulated that he was being held at home against his will, but Richard and Lenny dismissed these claims, explaining that he simply needed time to rest.

Tom Estey also addressed the situation at the time, stating, “Richard made a choice. To live a more private life. If he decides to come back, he’ll come back.”

Sadly, on July 13, Richard Simmons passed away at age 76. Emergency services were called to his residence shortly before 10 a.m. after he reportedly fell in his bathroom. His housekeeper found him unresponsive, prompting an urgent call for medical assistance.

The LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division responded but did not suspect foul play. According to law enforcement, Richard’s fall had occurred the night before his death and may have been linked to his passing. Authorities continued their investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.

Further details about Richard’s final moments emerged through his social media. His last Facebook post featured a playful photo captioned, “Hello gorgeous! Please don’t rain on my parade,” showcasing his enduring charm and vivacity. This final message resonated with thousands of fans, becoming a poignant last memory for many.

In the post, Richard also thanked everyone for their warm wishes on his 76th birthday, showing his connection to the community until the end. “I never got so many messages about my birthday in my life! I am sitting here writing emails. Have a most beautiful rest of your Friday,” he wrote.

Richard Simmons’ death, ruled accidental due to falls and heart disease, offers clarity on his passing. Though he had retreated from the public eye, his legacy of joy, kindness, and positive impact on countless lives remains strong.
