Wisconsin Second-Grader Who Survived Shooting at Madison Abundant Life School Speaks Out – Details

On December 16, 2024, a shooting at Madison Abundant Life Christian School claimed three lives, including the shooter, and injured six more. Survivors said the incident was “really scary” and “super sad.”

Police verified that the planned attack was executed by school student Natalie Rupnow, age 15. Authorities were able to act swiftly thanks to a crucial 911 call from a second-grader. Police Chief Shon Barnes commended the student’s bravery, saying, “It makes my heart skip a beat to think about that.” Instructors enforced lockdowns to make sure pupils complied with safety procedures.

A teacher, a student, and Rupnow, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, were all killed in the tragedy. Two of the six injured people were in critical condition.

Parent Bethany Highman recalled how she panicked when she heard the news. “Every morning, my kids and I pray that this won’t happen,” she said. “My heart goes out to the families that aren’t that fortunate,” said Brit Grange, another parent who was relieved to be reunited with her kids but sympathized with the families who were grieving.

After calling 911, eight-year-old Nora Gottschalk said, “I was really scared, and I was really sad.” In their grief, the close-knit school community leans on one another for support.

The increasing need for readiness and assistance for impacted families is brought to light by this tragedy.
