Phil Collins reveals he can “barely hold a drumstick anymore”

Phil Collins, the lead singer and drummer for Genesis, is one of the most well-known artists in the world, having won eight Grammy awards. Along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, he is one of just three musicians who have sold over 100 million records as a band member and solo artist.

Collins, who was born on January 30, 1951, in London, England, to imaginative parents, developed a passion for creating music.

According to Collins, his uncle constructed a drum kit for him when he was only five years old using toy drums, triangles, tambourines, and cymbals. “Well, at least it will keep him quiet,” he told Interview Magazine, quoting the old cliche.

Soon after, he started doing shows at the boating club owned by his parents.

In 1970, drummer John Collins joined Genesis, a group that released five albums and singles that reached the charts. After the founder and lead singer left the group, Collins took his place as both a singer and drummer. He had an impressive solo career with hits like In The Air Tonight, You Can’t Hurry Love, and I Don’t Care Anymore. Collins decided to leave Genesis and focus on his solo career, stating that he felt it was time to change direction in his musical life.

In 2017, Collins reunited with the band, but the world tour, The Last Domino, was put on hold due to the pandemic. Collins’ son Nicholas will be the drummer, and Collins will only sing. Genesis band member Tony Banks said that Collins’ son can sound like early Phil, which was exciting for him and the band. Collins revealed that he is physically challenged and doesn’t want to be touring anymore, as he can barely hold a stick with his hand.

In recent years, Collins has experienced health issues, including a dislocated vertebra, nerve damage, and a foot fracture. He wishes the guys in Genesis all the best in their future and remains a close friend.
