Pamela Anderson’s bold look at the Met Gala sparks reaction

Pamela Anderson may be no stranger to the spotlight, but this year’s Met Gala proved she’s still capable of surprising even the most seasoned red carpet watchers. At 57, the former Baywatch star made a dramatic entrance — not just with her gown, but with a completely transformed look that had fans doing double takes and the internet buzzing with hot takes.

Gone were her iconic bombshell waves, replaced with a sleek, cropped blonde bob that instantly set the tone for her bold rebrand. She paired the new cut with minimal, glowing makeup — a stark contrast to the heavy glam look she once made famous. Though technically not “makeup-free,” as she had previously embraced at Paris Fashion Week, her beauty team leaned into a more subdued aesthetic. “We wanted to explore the next incarnation of natural,” said makeup legend Pat McGrath. “An elevation of natural beauty.”

Anderson’s gown, a structured, silver Tory Burch creation, shimmered with crystal embellishments in hues of blue and red, adhering subtly to the “Tailored for You” theme of the night. The wide neckline and long sleeves gave it a regal feel, completed by delicate Pandora jewels. She attended the gala alongside her son, Brandon Thomas Lee, who kept it classic in a black Genuardi tuxedo.

But as with most things Met Gala, public opinion was sharply divided. While some praised Pamela’s fearless evolution and celebrated her graceful aging, others were far less charitable. Critics zeroed in on everything from her eyebrows (or lack thereof) to her hair and gown, with one Instagram user bluntly suggesting her stylist “needs fired.” Another mused that it looked like she was “going all out to look as unattractive as possible.” A third chimed in, “What happened to her beautiful hair?”

Still, not all reactions were negative. Some drew parallels between Pamela and Joan of Arc — both women symbolic, in different eras, of challenging expectations. Anderson, once the poster woman for ’90s bombshell beauty, has continuously reinvented herself. Her shift toward authenticity — even defiance — in the face of intense public scrutiny feels deeply intentional.

Anderson explained her transformation during Paris Fashion Week in 2023: “I don’t know, something just kind of came over me… I thought, ‘I don’t want to compete with the clothes.’” That sentiment carried into this year’s Met Gala, where her understated look arguably made a louder statement than the night’s most extravagant gowns.

As always, Pamela Anderson is stirring conversation — just not in the way many expected. Is she breaking the mold and pushing back against ageist and beauty-obsessed standards? Or did this particular look miss the mark?

Love it or hate it, she certainly reminded everyone she’s not afraid to evolve — or provoke a reaction. What’s your take: trailblazing icon or fashion misstep?
