Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s parenting plan “revealed” as ‘cocaine clause’ emerges

The parenting plan for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban has come into focus following Kidman’s divorce filing earlier this week, marking a decisive turn in their nearly two-decade marriage. While the exact cause of the split remains unconfirmed, recent reports suggest the separation had been building for some time.

Multiple outlets reported the pair had already begun living apart before summer, with Kidman caring for their daughters—Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14—while Urban moved into a new home in Nashville. According to one account, Kidman has been deeply affected by the unraveling of the relationship.

“Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” a source told the magazine. “It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.”

On Tuesday, Kidman formally petitioned for divorce and requested to be named the primary residential parent. Urban has reportedly agreed to a custodial arrangement that allocates 306 days each year with Kidman and 59 days with Urban, outlining a clear structure for the teenagers’ day-to-day lives.

Beyond custody, the documents include a non-disparagement understanding aimed at keeping the public discourse respectful. The former couple committed in writing to avoid negative comments about each other or either family to the press, and to actively support a healthy co-parenting dynamic.

They will “encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”

Another provision requires both parents to complete a parenting seminar within 60 days of the filing—an educational step often designed to help families navigate communication and transitions during and after a divorce. Reports further indicate that Urban has prepaid his child support obligations, signaling an effort to settle financial matters up front as the legal process moves forward.

Attention has also turned to the couple’s prenuptial agreement, signed prior to their 2006 wedding. As highlighted in coverage of the filing, a clause stipulates that Urban is entitled to $600,000 from Kidman for each year of abstaining from illicit drugs and alcohol throughout the marriage. Over 19 years, that figure could exceed $11 million, underscoring how extensively some high-profile prenups anticipate lifestyle and wellness contingencies.

Taken together, the filing outlines three central priorities: stability for the children through a detailed parenting plan, a public posture that avoids mutual criticism, and clear financial parameters shaped by their long-standing agreement. While speculation persists about what led to the breakup, the legal framework emphasizes minimizing conflict as the family adapts to life after separation.

For fans, the news is a jolt—particularly given Kidman and Urban’s history of affectionate red-carpet appearances and public support for one another’s careers. Yet the roadmap now in place suggests a forward-looking approach: defined custody time, continued joint decision-making on the girls’ major needs, and an expectation that both parents will keep the tone constructive.

As the divorce proceeds, the focus will likely remain on how effectively both parties translate these commitments into everyday co-parenting—safeguarding the teenagers’ routines, privacy, and well-being while navigating a new normal out of the spotlight. In the end, the most significant measure of this plan’s success won’t be the clauses themselves but how they’re lived—quietly, consistently, and with the children’s best interests at the center.
