With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of this wonderful singer – how she died at just 26 is truly heartbreaking

Camryn Magness, the singer-songwriter who built her career alongside some of the biggest pop acts of the 2010s—including One Direction, Cody Simpson, Greyson Chance, and Fifth Harmony—has died at the age of 26.

Magness passed away on December 5 after being fatally injured in an electric scooter accident, according to reports from People and confirmed by TMZ. The incident occurred in Miami Beach, where police responded to a collision involving an electric mobility scooter and a pedestrian at approximately 7:52 p.m. All individuals involved sustained serious injuries and were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Camryn later died from her injuries.

Her death was publicly announced on December 9 through her official Facebook page, accompanied by a video of Camryn scuba diving—an image that reflected both her adventurous spirit and love for life.

In a statement shared by her family, they wrote:

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved Camryn, a radiant force whose voice, coy, and bright spirit touched so many. Whether beneath the waves or on stage, she met life with fearless energy and boundless kindness. In the quiet between waves, her memory will surface—bright, bold, unforgotten. Rest in endless blue, our sweet girl. You are deeply loved and forever cherished.”

Camryn’s mother, Sarah Magness, later confirmed that there would be no public memorial service.

Born with an early passion for music, Camryn’s career began at just eight years old when she sent a demo to future manager Jeff Pringle. She soon collaborated with the band Blessed by a Broken Heart, recording the song “Wait and See,” which was later featured in the film Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Her rise continued through YouTube, where her vocal covers attracted attention from fellow young artists Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson.

In 2010, Camryn opened for Chance and Simpson on the Waiting 4U Tour, and she reunited with Chance again in 2012. That same year marked a major milestone in her career when she joined One Direction as an opening act for seven dates on their Up All Night Tour. She later returned to tour with the group during their Take Me Home Tour in 2013.

Reflecting on that experience in a 2012 interview with Teen Vogue, Camryn shared:

“Going into the tour, I was an unknown artist. It’s a great feeling to be walking around and someone coming up to me and saying, ‘Hey, you did so well!’ It was really exciting for me when that happened for the first time.”

She echoed similar sentiments in an interview with CBS News, describing the tour as “amazing” and noting that she gained not only new fans, but lasting friendships.

Throughout her career, Camryn released a number of singles, including “Now or Never,” “Lovesick,” and “Machines.” In 2016, she opened for Fifth Harmony during their 7/27 Tour, further solidifying her place within the pop music landscape. Her most recent release, the Love Maps EP, arrived in 2021 and showcased a more mature, introspective sound.

Her obituary described her artistry as deeply personal:

“A gifted performer, Camryn’s voice and music were extensions of her soul. Whether she was on a stage, at a family gathering, or sharing a song with someone who needed it, Camryn’s music was a reflection of her heart, her courage, and her endless creativity.”

Outside of music, Camryn was engaged to her fiancé, Christian, whom her family described as “the love of her life.” Together, they were planning a future centered on their shared life and their two dogs, Brooklyn and Zeppelin.

Camryn Magness is survived by her parents, Sarah and Gary, and her siblings, Chelsea and Cable.

She was 26 years old.

Her legacy lives on through her music, her fearless spirit, and the many lives she touched along the way.
