‘Frank’s Sign’ on Trump’s ear could be huge indicator of potentially fatal health condition

Recent photos of Donald Trump showing a noticeable rash on his neck have sparked renewed discussion online about the president’s health. The images surfaced after a public appearance during a Medal of Honor ceremony held at the White House East Room on March 2.

The appearance quickly drew attention on social media, where observers speculated about the cause of the reddish mark just above the collar of his shirt. The conversation comes amid ongoing public interest in the health of the 79-year-old president, who began his second term in 2025.

Official explanation from Trump’s physician

Trump’s personal doctor, Sean Barbabella, addressed the speculation in a statement reported by The New York Times. According to the physician, the visible redness was not related to any illness but instead resulted from a routine dermatological treatment.

“President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment,” Barbabella said.
“The president is using the treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks.”

The statement emphasized that the irritation was temporary and not connected to any underlying medical issue.

Terry Richardson for saving 85 lives of fellow soldiers during the Vietnam War; and Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis who died in the Afghanistan War when he shielded another soldier from a suicide bomber. Online speculation about possible health signals

Despite the official explanation, the images prompted further speculation among commentators and political observers. Some pointed to additional details in photographs, including what appeared to be a crease on the president’s earlobe.

Political commentator David Pakman discussed the topic during an episode of his program, referencing a physical marker sometimes discussed in medical research.

He mentioned “Frank’s sign,” a diagonal crease in the earlobe first described in 1973 by physician Sanders Frank. Some studies have examined whether the feature might correlate with cardiovascular conditions such as atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease.

Pakman noted, however, that the presence of such a crease alone does not prove any medical diagnosis.

“There have been multiple studies looking at the correlation, not necessarily causative, but a correlation between that ear crease called Frank’s sign and cardiovascular disease,” he explained.

At the same time, he acknowledged that age, lighting conditions, and camera angles can make natural skin folds appear more pronounced.

Health discussions and public figures

Health questions about prominent political leaders often become widely debated topics, particularly when visual changes appear during public appearances. In Trump’s case, occasional speculation has surfaced over the past several years regarding his overall health.

However, there is currently no confirmed medical evidence linking the neck rash seen at the ceremony to any serious condition. According to the president’s physician, the redness is simply a side effect of a short-term topical treatment.

A reminder about interpreting visual cues

Medical experts frequently caution against drawing conclusions based solely on photographs or video clips. Skin irritation, bruising, or facial lines can result from many harmless causes, especially in older adults.

Without medical evaluation and confirmed records, visible changes in appearance rarely provide reliable information about someone’s overall health.

For now, the only official explanation remains the one given by Trump’s physician: a temporary reaction to a preventative skin treatment.
