Andrea Bocelli & Teddy Swims sing Amazing Grace at Vatican’s first ever music concert
On September 13, 2025, a historic milestone occurred in Vatican City as St. Peter’s Square hosted its inaugural live music concert. This landmark event, titled Grace For The World, drew significant international attention and served as a unique platform for artistic expression within the sacred grounds of the Vatican. The concert was particularly noted for a collaborative performance between the renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and the American blues vocalist Teddy Swims. Their rendition of the classic hymn “Amazing Grace” resonated deeply with audiences, creating a viral moment that successfully bridged traditional operatic styles with contemporary gospel-blues sensibilities.
The performance was a carefully staged production that utilized the architecture of the square as a backdrop. Bocelli opened the hymn with his signature operatic vibrato, backed by the rich tones of a live orchestra. As he sang, a synchronized drone display illuminated the night sky above the square, creating visual tributes that included a glowing image of the late Pope Francis, who passed away in April 2023, as well as formations of flying doves. When Teddy Swims joined the performance for the second verse, he introduced a soulful, velvet-toned depth to the arrangement, blending his unique vocal texture with Bocelli’s powerful presence. While Bocelli’s bold delivery anchored the performance, the two artists successfully harmonized to offer a respectful and moving interpretation within the traditional Christian environment.
The Grace For The World concert was co-directed by Andrea Bocelli and the hitmaker Pharrell Williams. This ambitious production served as the grand concluding event for the Fratelli Tutti Foundation’s 2025 World Meeting on Human Fraternity. According to Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, the president of the foundation, the primary objective of the gathering was to communicate the joy of fraternal love to the entire world through a symbolic embrace. The event’s lineup was remarkably diverse, featuring an array of global talent including US superstars John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, and Jelly Roll, alongside Colombian artist Karol G, Thai rapper BamBam, and Beninese-French singer Angélique Kidjo.
