Tom Jones and Cate McHugh Duet on The Voice UK Final

Sir Tom Jones and Cate McHugh performed together during the final of The Voice UK 2026, choosing John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” for their duet. The appearance formed part of a winning night for McHugh, a 31-year-old singer from Llantwit Major who took the competition’s title and received a recording contract with Universal Music Group.

Their connection on the program dated back to McHugh’s blind audition. Jones was the only member of the coaching panel who turned his chair for her, beginning the partnership that eventually brought them to the final. Bro Radio reported that the studio audience gave their rendition a standing ovation.

Both coach and contestant came from South Wales. Jones is from Pontypridd, while McHugh is from the Vale of Glamorgan. During the final performance, her expressive singing was paired with the veteran performer’s sustained vocal power, giving each of them a distinct place within the duet.

The 1971 John Denver standard also suited Jones’s previous experience with country-oriented storytelling. In 1966, he recorded “Green, Green Grass of Home,” which held first place on the UK singles chart for seven weeks. His history with that material provided a clear context for performing a folk-country song concerned with returning home.
