When Christa Pike survived her execution, the doctor assigned to pronounce her dead instead found himself helping bring her back.

Now, despite what happened inside the execution chamber, Dr. Mark Fowler says his position has not changed.

He still believes Pike should be executed.

Pike, Tennessee’s only woman on death row, was scheduled to die by lethal injection on September 30. But after receiving the execution drugs, she remained alive.

Fowler had been assigned to enter the chamber afterward and officially confirm her death.

Instead, he was met with words he never expected to hear.
