At 65, Jamie Lee Curtis flaunts new shoulder-length gray hair on film set

When you’ve reached the level of stardom that Jamie Lee Curtis has, it’s likely you stop worrying about what others think of your style choices. After all, Curtis has seen and done it all in the entertainment industry. With a career spanning multiple decades, she’s built a loyal fan base that eagerly follows her every move.

This might explain why the 65-year-old actress garnered so much attention when she swapped her signature gray pixie cut for a longer hairstyle earlier this summer. According to reports, Curtis was photographed on the set of Freakier Friday, the sequel to the popular 2000s film in which she starred alongside Lindsay Lohan. Stepping out of her trailer during a break in filming, Curtis showed off her new look—longer gray locks, which marked a notable departure from her usual style.

Freakier Friday, scheduled to premiere in 2025, will see Curtis reprise her role as Tess Coleman. Speaking to the media last year, the actress expressed that she felt a sequel to the original Freaky Friday was long overdue. Reflecting on the overwhelming interest from fans, Curtis explained, “As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday […] When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”

The first film, which was a hit with audiences worldwide, centered on a mother-daughter duo who swap bodies. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed whether the sequel will follow a similar plot, it’s safe to assume there will be plenty of laughs involved.

Curtis is no stranger to experimenting with her hairstyle, as she revealed in a 2021 interview. She admitted that she had tried nearly everything possible with her hair but found the process frustrating. “I tried to do everything you can do to your hair. Personally, I felt it was humiliating. I would go into a hair salon—the smell of the chemicals, the feeling of that color on my hair […] wearing the thing, sitting under the hairdryer—I was like, ‘For what?’” Curtis recalled that an early experience with a perm and subsequent hair dye for a movie left her hair damaged, leading her to embrace a short haircut that she felt truly represented her.

When photos of Curtis on the set of Freakier Friday surfaced online, fans were quick to weigh in on her new look. Although the long, gray hair is just a wig, opinions varied widely. Some preferred her classic short style, while others were excited about the change.

One fan commented, “Looks a lot nicer in short hair.” Another added, “Hmmm, I feel like they should have kept her with short hair… but still super excited!” Others echoed similar sentiments, with one saying, “Like her better in short hair. This doesn’t do anything for her. The short style looks amazing on her. Not everyone can wear real short hair.” Yet another wrote, “No, looks better short and younger,” while a fifth person added, “Dreadful! She had such class with her boyish cut! Getting older means you can’t go for longer hair, I know!”
