My Boyfriend ‘Forgets’ His Credit Card Every Time We Go Out To Eat, So I Have To Pay For Everyone

A woman had been dating her boyfriend for several months when she began noticing a troubling pattern whenever they dined out together. Eventually, she grew tired of the situation and decided to take action.

The 32-year-old woman had been in a relationship with her 39-year-old boyfriend, who had two young children, for nine months. Their relationship seemed solid until they had a major argument over something her boyfriend had been doing repeatedly.

Feeling conflicted, the woman turned to Reddit to seek advice and find out if she had overreacted. She detailed the incident, and netizens quickly chimed in with their opinions, offering insight into her boyfriend’s behavior.

The woman was particularly concerned because the argument had taken place in front of her boyfriend’s children. He accused her of being selfish and not considering their well-being, which left her questioning her actions.

The woman explained that her boyfriend’s children loved eating out, so they made it a weekly tradition. However, each time they went to a restaurant, her boyfriend would “accidentally” forget his wallet at home, leaving her to cover the bill. Initially, this didn’t bother her, but after paying for dinner multiple times in a single month, she found herself strapped for cash.

One evening, after receiving her paycheck from a part-time job, the woman joined her boyfriend and his children for another dinner. Anticipating his usual excuse, she sent him a reminder to bring his wallet. He laughed it off, dismissing her concern.

When they arrived at the restaurant, the children eagerly ordered a variety of new and expensive items from the menu. Before their meals arrived, the woman asked her boyfriend if he had remembered his wallet. Her question was met with a shocked expression as he patted his pockets, realizing he had “forgotten” it once again.

With an embarrassed look, her boyfriend claimed he left his wallet in another pair of jeans. He then asked if she could pay for dinner this time, but the woman, fed up with the situation, decided she had had enough. Grabbing her belongings, she prepared to leave the restaurant before even getting a chance to eat.

Startled, her boyfriend demanded to know what she was doing. She calmly explained that she was no longer willing to pay for him and his children and then walked out of the restaurant.

Later that night, her boyfriend called to express his anger, accusing her of being selfish for leaving him and his children stranded. He insisted that he genuinely forgot his wallet and scolded her for showing no sympathy. He also mentioned that he had to cancel their food order, leaving his children hungry because he couldn’t afford to pay for the meal.

The argument escalated as he accused her of neglecting his children’s needs and suggested that he needed to reassess how she treated them. He was particularly upset that she was willing to let them go hungry over what he perceived as a minor issue.

After sharing her experience on Reddit, the woman revealed that her boyfriend was still furious about the incident. Most Reddit users were quick to point out that her boyfriend was likely using her to foot the bill, urging her to reconsider the relationship.

The situation raises an important question: Was the woman justified in walking out on her boyfriend and his children after he once again “forgot” his wallet, or should she have paid for the meal and addressed the issue privately afterward?
