Campbell Soup Company to change name of iconic brand after 102 years

After 102 years, the iconic Campbell Soup Company is planning a name change to better represent its expanding product range, which now includes well-known snack brands like Snyder’s of Hanover, Pepperidge Farm, and more. The proposed new name, The Campbell’s Company, is set to be finalized pending shareholder approval in November.

Campbell CEO Mark Clouse explained that this change aims to retain the company’s established name recognition while also acknowledging the broader scope of its product offerings. “This subtle yet important change retains the company’s iconic name recognition, reputation, and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the full breadth of the company’s portfolio,” Clouse said in a statement.

In addition to its famous line of soups, Campbell’s owns several other snack brands, including Goldfish, V8 Beverages, Cape Cod, and Pepperidge Farm. The company, which has been in operation for 155 years, recently acquired Sovos Brands, the maker of the popular Rao’s sauces.

Despite the name change, Campbell’s remains committed to its roots in soup. “We will always love soup, and we’ll never take our eye off of this critical business,” Clouse assured during the company’s investor day. “But today, we’re so much more than soup.”

Last year, the company saw a 13% increase in snack sales, while sales of Campbell’s soups grew by just 3%.
