Tesla owner reveals his first electric bill in a year, and the cost astonishes everyone.

A Tesla owner recently sparked surprise by sharing his remarkably low annual electricity bill after a year of driving his Tesla. Despite the car’s initial high price, the cost of powering it turned out to be far less than expected.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Tesla owner revealed that his total electricity bill for the entire year was just $2.37 (£1.89). He commented, “First time I have had a bill within the last 12 months,” highlighting how unexpectedly low the cost was, especially for those who might assume charging an electric vehicle would come with higher expenses.

The key to his minimal bill lies in the Tesla Powerwall, a large home battery system that integrates with solar panels. The Powerwall stores excess solar energy, which can then be used to power the car. While the Powerwall itself comes with a hefty price tag, it significantly reduces electricity costs over time by making use of solar energy.

Although the initial investment in a Powerwall ranges from $11,500 (£9,000) to $15,000 (£11,800), the long-term savings can make it a smart financial decision for Tesla owners looking to reduce their energy expenses.

The post drew lighthearted responses from users, with some jokingly suggesting starting a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of the Powerwall. Despite the upfront expense, the owner’s experience shows the potential for substantial savings on electric vehicle charging in the long run.
