A tragic accident in Manitoba, Canada, claimed the lives of at least 15 individuals on Thursday. The incident occurred when a bus carrying elderly passengers collided with a truck at an intersection near Carberry, approximately 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg.
The bus was transporting passengers to a casino in Carberry when the collision took place. Deputy Police Officer Rob Hill, commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, confirmed the grim toll, stating that “at least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.” Additionally, ten others are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Both the bus and truck drivers survived the crash, but authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of the accident or who may have been at fault. Harrowing images from the scene show the wreckage, including destroyed wheelchair seats and walking frames scattered near tarpaulins covering the victims’ bodies.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and those injured in the accident. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson also expressed her deep sympathy for those affected by this devastating event.
