Queen Camilla Falls Ill, Cancels Engagements

Britain’s Buckingham Palace says that Queen Camilla has missed a few planned events because she has a chest infection.

Doctors told her to rest at home for a short time, but the Palace says she hopes to be well enough to go to events for Remembrance this weekend.

The Queen, who is 77 years old, will not be at Westminster Abbey on Thursday for the opening of the Field of Remembrance. Instead, the Duchess of Gloucester will attend in her place.

The Queen and the King took a trip to Australia and Samoa, with a stopover in India on the way back. They got back to the UK last Wednesday.

There is no reason to be worried, and the fact that she has plans this weekend suggests that she may just have a minor bug that she could have picked up on her long-haul flights.

One of the events this weekend is the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday. On Sunday morning, there will be a service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall to remember those who died.

The Queen has been the most important royal at the Field of Remembrance ceremony every year for the past few years, but she will not be there on Thursday. The 78-year-old Duchess of Gloucester, who is married to a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II and works as a royal, will fill in for her.

As part of this annual event to remember those who died while serving in the military, memorials are set up outside of Westminster Abbey.

Also, King Charles will host an event at Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, but the Queen will not be there.

I wish the Queen a “speedy recovery” in a social media post from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

The Palace said in a statement about the Queen’s health, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection. Her doctors have advised that she rest for a short time.”

“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.”

In February 2023, when she tested positive for Covid, the Queen missed a week of events because she was sick. It was the second time she got the virus; the first time was in February 2022.

The Queen went on a tour with the King to Australia and Samoa a few weeks ago, which included a Commonwealth summit. It was said that on the way back, she went to a health spa in India.

Additionally, the Queen has recorded a TV show to raise awareness about domestic violence. It will air next week.

In February, King Charles was told he had cancer. During his trip abroad, his treatment stopped, but it was planned to start up again when he got back to the UK.
