Caroline Munro was born on January 16, 1949, in Windsor, Berkshire, England. Her parents were a housewife and a lawyer. Her family moved to Rottingdean, close to Brighton, when she was a child, and she went to a convent school there.

A Career in Modeling and Getting Started in Acting

Munro’s career started in 1966 when she won the “Face of the Year” contest from The Evening News after her mother and a friend who was a photographer submitted her photos.

At the age of 17, this triumph led to modeling for Vogue magazine. In order to pursue modeling, she relocated to London, where she worked as a cover girl for TV and fashion ads. Her early film roles included small roles in Where’s Jack? (1969) and Casino Royale (1967).

Hammer Films’ breakthrough

Munro’s big break came when Sir James Carreras, the chairman of Hammer Films, noticed her on a poster for Lamb’s Navy Rum. She signed a one-year deal with Hammer Films as a result, and she starred in Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter (1974) and Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972). She became well-known in the horror genre as a result of these roles.

Munro’s reputation in fantasy film was further cemented in 1973 when she portrayed Margiana in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. She became well-known throughout the world for her role as henchwoman and helicopter pilot Naomi in the 1977 James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me. In her role as Naomi, James Bond unquestionably killed a woman on screen for the first time.

In 1970, Munro wed actor and singer Judd Hamilton; the two parted ways in 1982. She married George Dugdale in 1990, and the two of them had two daughters. In 2020, George Dugdale died.

Munro reunited with her co-star Christopher Neame from Dracula A.D. 1972 in the horror movie House of the Gorgon in 2018. She started hosting The Cellar Club on Talking Pictures TV in September 2021, introducing both well-known and obscure horror movies.
