In 1980, she became a household name after starring opposite John Travolta in Urban Cowboy. Her unforgettable performance as Sissy, a feisty honky-tonk queen, catapulted her to stardom.

The success of Urban Cowboy opened doors to critically acclaimed roles, including An Officer and a Gentleman (1982) and Terms of Endearment (1983), both of which earned her Academy Award nominations. Though she occasionally returned for indie films and stage performances, her main focus was living authentically. “I did a lot of interesting stuff,” she reflected. “And I didn’t feel like any of it was ‘instead of.'”

In 2016, Winger surprised fans with her return to the screen in Netflix’s The Ranch alongside Ashton Kutcher, proving she still had the magic that once captivated millions. Though her critiques of Hollywood remain sharp, she continues to inspire with her fearless approach to life and her commitment to her values.

Now in her late sixties, Winger divides her time between her New York farm and film projects.
