The Journey of Chaz Bono: A Story of Courage, Resilience, and Self-Discovery

The life of Chaz Bono is a tale of advocacy, self-discovery, and tenacity. He was raised in the spotlight, under constant public scrutiny, as the son of music legend Cher. He first came out as a lesbian at the age of 18, and at 39, he started a gender transition that pushed the boundaries of society and strengthened his relationship with his mother.

His transition, which was chronicled in Becoming Chaz, helped others accept who they really were and raised awareness of transgender issues. Chaz was a successful actor who starred in Dancing with the Stars and American Horror Story. His involvement on the show also led to a change in his own health.

Outside of work, Chaz fell in love with Shara Mathes. Cher’s steadfast support of Chaz demonstrates the value of family love during times of transition. Chaz Bono is still a controversial icon today, encouraging countless others to adobt who they believe they are.
