While we were discussing color options, I painted a new resident’s nails today at work, and she mentioned that she wanted clear. “CLEAR!” was the only thing that sprang to mind. That isn’t enjoyable.

“My hands are ugly, and I don’t want to draw attention to them,” she said when I asked her why she wanted clear. “Your hands tell the story of your life,” I said thoughtfully in response. They narrate tales of adventure, love, and caring. These hands have held and touched things that most people can only hope to experience in their lifetime. After that, she decided to paint her nails pink.
