Joe Biden Gives First Speech Since Leaving Office at a Chicago Conference, Sparking Buzz over His Appearance

This week, the former president made a triumphant return to the stage, delivering a scathing speech from the center of Chicago.

On Tuesday, April 15, Joe Biden gave his first formal speech since leaving office at a bipartisan conference in Chicago, sparking controversy with his unusual public appearance.

Advocates, Counselors, and Representatives for the Disabled (ACRD) hosted the event, which focused on Social Security protection and took place at the Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile.

Biden attacked the current administration’s management of the Social Security Administration during his speech. “This administration has done so much damage and destruction in less than 100 days—it’s kind of breathtaking that it could happen that soon,” he said.

Biden’s arrival immediately generated a lot of conversation on social media. His appearance during the event surprised and impressed many viewers.

One person commented, “Biden looks younger,” on X. “Biden looks good and refreshed,” said another.

YouTube comments were no exception. “Holy moly, he looks healthy and stress-free again,” one viewer commented. This demonstrates the toll that being president has on you.

“I miss you, Joe Biden,” another person said. You look fantastic. He appears refreshed, according to a different comment. I am happy that he has taken a moment to rest [sic]. “He’s had some work done,” one viewer commented.

Praise for the former president was accompanied on Instagram by emotional responses. One commenter said, “Wow. I really do miss him. Here, we’re afraid. “President Biden is so Amazing [sic],” someone else wrote.

In addition to its content, Biden’s first public speech since leaving office garnered attention online for his appearance.

Both his words and the way he delivered them made an impression on both supporters and onlookers as he returned to the limelight at the Chicago conference.

Karoline Leavitt, the 36th White House press secretary, made a jab at Biden earlier in the day, which sparked criticism and sparked a discussion about political decorum.

“When I first saw that former President Biden was speaking tonight, I was shocked that he was speaking at night,” Leavitt said in her statement. His bedtime, in my opinion, was considerably earlier than his speech tonight.

“I understand the topic of his speech will be Social Security,” the 27-year-old said. Before former President Biden speaks, let me state unequivocally that President Trump is fully committed to preserving Social Security benefits for seniors and law-abiding, tax-paying Americans.

“This program will always be protected by him. Leavitt, the youngest White House press secretary in history, concluded, “He ran on it, he defended it during his first term, and he’s back again to continue defending it.”

Leavitt’s opening remarks, which were widely perceived as a scathing critique of Biden’s age and vigor, caused a great deal of backlash on social media. Her tone was deemed disrespectful and unprofessional by many users.

One person wrote, “Very rude,” on Facebook. She is referring to a former president of the United States. At the very least, he deserves some respect!

Another said, “Well, so, even though I generally appreciate her directness, this was disrespectful and immature. Even though I didn’t like President Biden, he was still our president and a human being.

“Inappropriate,” one netizen commented. “So juvenile, disrespectful, and classless,” said another commenter. “That is just so wrong to say, didn’t need!” said another commenter. But you [sic] don’t surprise me!

Reactions were just as strong on Instagram. “She does a great job, but I don’t think her comments are appropriate,” one person commented. ought to be higher than that [sic].

“Karoline, you crossed the line!” said another. “So unnecessary for a person in her position to speak like this,” said one internet user.

Recent and contentious actions taken by Donald Trump’s administration that have an impact on the Social Security Administration (SSA) provide a backdrop for Biden’s appearance. President Trump announced plans to reduce government workforces, including 7,000 SSA employees, as soon as he took office again.

Tighter identity-verification requirements and a data-sharing initiative involving the Department of Government Efficiency, headed by adviser Elon Musk, are the outcomes of additional policy changes.

In the meantime, beneficiaries have complained about everything from longer wait times on SSA’s helpline to inaccurate benefit status notifications.

Concerns still exist, particularly among Supplemental Security Income recipients, such as low-income households and disabled people, even though the agency ascribed some problems to system errors.

It was three months after his farewell speech on January 15, 2025, that Biden returned to the public eye. He addressed the American people directly at the time, expressing optimism for the future of the nation.

And I will always be grateful to the American people. “I promise you that after 50 years of public service, I still believe in the ideal for which this country stands—a nation where the character of our people and the strength of our institutions matter and must endure,” he said.

“Now it’s your turn to stand guard,” Biden said in that same speech, urging Americans to continue defending democratic values. May the flame be kept alive by all of you. I hope you maintain your faith. I adore America. You also adore it. May God bless everyone. And may God keep our soldiers safe.

“You know, it will take time to feel the full impact of all we’ve done together,” he said as he wrapped up his term. However, the seeds have already been sown and will continue to grow and bloom for many years to come.

Additionally, Biden expressed support for a smooth transition, saying, “I want America to succeed, so I wish the incoming administration success.” In order to make sure that we lead by example, I have upheld my responsibility to ensure a smooth and orderly transfer of power.

Strong public reactions were triggered by Karoline Leavitt’s response to Joe Biden’s comeback to the public eye, which highlighted the political tensions surrounding Social Security.

Leavitt’s comments and Biden’s appearance mirror the national dialogue on public accountability, policy direction, and leadership as discussions about the program’s future continue.
