Warning: do not put these in the freezer

A 5-year-old boy was hurt in a risky incident in Shanghai after putting a can of carbonated drink in the freezer to rapidly cool.

The can exploded when it was opened, hurting the boy’s face and necessitating 38 stitches. Because it can result in high pressure and possible explosions, doctors caution that keeping carbonated drinks in the freezer is dangerous.

Three essential items should never be kept in the freezer:

Carbonated drinks: When they are frozen, pressure can build up and explode the cans.

Alcoholic drinks: These can also produce hazardous pressure in the freezer, which raises the possibility of fires and explosions.

Dry ice: Dry ice has the potential to blow up the freezer because it expands quickly in freezing temperatures.

Use appropriate storage techniques and refrain from placing these items in the freezer for your own safety.
