Former child star who played Michelle Williams’ daughter passes away

Sophie Nyweide, a former child actress who played Michelle Williams’ daughter in the 2009 movie Mammoth, passed away at the age of 24. In an online obituary posted on April 14, her family confirmed her death.

At an early age, Nyweide started performing, landing parts in films such as An Invisible Sign, Margot at the Wedding, Law & Order, and Bella. Her family recalled her as a compassionate, creative person who struggled with severe emotional distress. They revealed that she died as a result of “self-medicating to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside.”

Nyweide resisted treatment and insisted on managing things on her own, despite the efforts of family, therapists, and others. According to her family, she loved the support of her coworkers and found solace on movie sets.

The cause of her death has not been made public. Early on, Nyweide received accolades for her talent and was once told she would have a “glowing future.”
