Donald Trump’s Health Under Scrutiny After Hand Bruises Go Viral

Earlier this year, Donald Trump made history by becoming the oldest person ever inaugurated as President of the United States. Now 79, Trump has faced growing public scrutiny over his physical condition as new images of his bruised and wrinkled hands continue to fuel online speculation.

Though Trump and his medical team maintain that he remains in excellent health, the visible bruises on his hands—most notably on his dominant right hand—have sparked widespread debate.

Trump Declared “Fully Fit” in April Medical Report

In April, White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella issued a public health report stating that Trump is “fully fit” to serve as Commander-in-Chief. The comprehensive exam covered his:

  • Cardiac, pulmonary, and neurological function

  • Colonoscopy (revealing a benign polyp and mild diverticulitis)

  • Eye, ear, neck, and throat evaluations

  • Bilateral cataract surgery history

“President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” Dr. Barbabella stated.

The report also confirmed that Trump is taking cholesterol medication, a cardiac prevention drug, and a topical cream for a minor skin condition.

The Mystery Behind Trump’s Bruised and Wrinkled Hands

Despite the clean bill of health, Trump’s hand bruising has captured attention since it was first spotted during his hush money trial against Stormy Daniels in spring 2024. The bruises reappeared several times throughout the year, including during diplomatic meetings and public appearances.

When asked, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt offered a simple explanation:

“President Trump is a man of the people and meets more Americans daily than any president in history. The bruising comes from his countless handshakes.”

Trump echoed this explanation himself during an interview for Time Magazine’s 2024 Person of the Year edition, attributing the bruising to greeting thousands of supporters.

Medical Experts: What Do The Bruises Really Mean?

While repeated handshakes may contribute to mild bruising, some medical professionals have offered additional context.

Dr. Ola Otulana, a general practitioner at Cassiobury Court in England, told The Economic Times that Trump’s bruises resemble “superficial contusions” often caused by:

  • Minor trauma (e.g., bumping into objects)

  • Repeated pressure (e.g., gripping or leaning on objects)

  • Medical procedures (e.g., blood draws)

Dr. Otulana added that thinning skin and fragile blood vessels, both common in elderly patients, can make bruises appear more prominent and long-lasting. Medications such as blood thinners and anti-inflammatory drugs could also contribute.

“This doesn’t raise any immediate red flags,” Dr. Otulana concluded.

Viral Catheter Rumors After UFC Appearance

The online conversation surrounding Trump’s health intensified further after a viral image from a UFC event on June 9. As fighter Kayla Harrison placed her championship belt around Trump’s waist, some social media users speculated that the president might be wearing a Foley catheter, pointing to a visible line running down his pant leg.

One viral post claimed:

“Trump appears to be wearing leg braces and possibly a catheter. The weakness on his right side has been pretty evident for years.”

However, many medical professionals and supporters quickly debunked the theory, explaining that the crease in Trump’s pants was likely just that—a fabric crease.

“A Foley catheter isn’t standard for walkie-talkie patients. That’s just a pant crease,” one medical professional wrote in response.

Age, Optics, and Speculation

As Trump enters his 80th year while serving his second term, public attention on his health will likely remain intense. Despite the ongoing rumors, his medical team maintains that he is fit for office, while Trump continues to present himself as energetic and robust.
