Father needed support during the wake and burial of his wife and children

People in Sidrolândia, in the interior of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, were inconsolable over the loss of a whole family. They paid their final respects to Drielle Leite Lopes and her three children, Helena, who was ten years old, João Lúcio, who was two, and José Augusto, who was only three months old.

On the BR-060, a tragic accident claimed the lives of a mother and three children. Emotion, revolt, and a profound state of shock among the family members characterized the wake scene, which was held at the city’s City Council.

Four members of the same family lost their lives in the tragedy that occurred on Sunday night between Sidrolândia and Campo Grande. In order to share the good news that they had purchased their own house the week before, the family had gone to see Drielle’s mother.

According to reports, the mechanic who was driving a Corsa model car at the time of the collision had used cocaine and was obviously intoxicated.

The driver of the Corsa made an unsuccessful attempt to pass a truck, struck the side of the large vehicle, and collided with a Saveiro, which was carrying Drielle’s family, according to the State Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The Corsa left the road and caught fire as a result of the violent impact. The driver sustained multiple fractures after being thrown from the vehicle while not wearing a seatbelt. He has been placed in preventive detention and is still in the hospital under police escort.

During the wake, Drielle’s husband, who lived through the accident, required assistance. Despite his minor injuries, he is inconsolable. After five surgeries, the 12-year-old boy, one of the couple’s children, is still in the hospital but has also survived.

Despite having fractures to his jaw, arms, and legs, he is safe. The incident rekindles discussion about careless driving and the terrible consequences of combining drugs, alcohol, and driving.

The family expects justice to be served not only as a kind of punishment but also to stop other people from dying in such senseless and violent ways.
