Slugs: More Than Just Slimy Garden Visitors

To many, slugs are merely slimy pests that appear after rain or creep into the garden. Yet, despite their unappealing appearance, these creatures play a vital role in both nature and even in scientific and cosmetic applications.

In the ecosystem, slugs are key players in natural recycling. By feeding on fallen leaves, fungi, and other organic matter, they help decompose plant material, returning essential nutrients to the soil and enhancing fertility and productivity.

Moreover, slugs are an important food source for various animals, including birds, toads, hedgehogs, and beetles. They are, therefore, an integral part of the delicate balance of the food chain, supporting biodiversity and ecological health.
