16-Year-Old Girl Murdered by a Friend’s Mother in Front of Her Own Mother – Video and Photo of the Chilling Case of Gabriela Nicole

A teenage conflict in Puerto Rico spiraled into tragedy, leaving a family devastated and a community in shock. The brutal killing of 16-year-old Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario, carried out in front of her mother, Lisandra “Lisa” Rosario, has ignited grief, outrage, and calls for justice across the island.

Gabriela, who was days away from turning 17 and dreamed of becoming a psychologist, was remembered by friends and teachers as kind, thoughtful, and an animal lover. She had once been close to her eventual attacker, 17-year-old Anthonieshka Avilés Cabrera. According to the Secretary of Education, the girls were friends before tensions between them grew into a conflict that would end in unimaginable violence.

On the night of August 10 in Aibonito, after an end-of-summer party, a fight broke out on the Desvío Roberto Colón. Gabriela stepped in to defend her older sister, who had been attacked. That was when, according to prosecutors, Anthonieshka and her 40-year-old mother, Elvia Cabrera Rivera, turned on Gabriela together, armed with a sharp weapon. Gabriela was stabbed eight times, while a friend who tried to shield her sustained three severe wounds and nearly lost a lung.

Lisandra, restrained by others at the scene, could only watch in horror. Police arrived shortly after midnight, but Gabriela’s injuries were too severe—she died at the hospital.

The mother-daughter suspects were arrested days later. As authorities escorted them away, Lisandra shouted through tears, calling them murderers and demanding justice for her daughter. Both women now face first-degree murder charges, with bail set at one million dollars each. Given the crime’s severity, Anthonieshka will be tried as an adult.

Prosecutors have stressed that this was not a random fight but a deliberate, violent act. Forensic evidence—including a bladed weapon, bloodstained clothes, and a getaway vehicle—supports the case against the accused. Authorities also suggested more arrests could follow, as witness accounts describe other individuals restraining Lisandra while her daughter was attacked.

The funeral in Aibonito drew hundreds—family, friends, classmates, and neighbors—who gathered in grief and solidarity. Images of Lisandra overcome with sorrow at the burial spread rapidly online, fueling public outrage. Messages of support poured in, with many sharing the pain of a mother’s loss. “When a mother cries, we all cry,” one person wrote, while others demanded that those responsible never be allowed to forget Gabriela’s name.

During the service, mourners spoke of faith and healing but also of the urgent need for justice. “We must pray every night and call out her name so Gabriela can rest in peace,” one attendee said.

The Secretary of Justice echoed the community’s anger, calling the crime “an act that has caused collective outrage in Puerto Rico” and promising accountability: “Every action has its consequences, and today those responsible for Gabriela’s death will face justice.”

As the investigation continues, Gabriela’s story has become more than a tragedy—it has become a rallying cry. Across Puerto Rico, her memory is being honored with calls for justice, solidarity with her grieving mother, and a reminder that violence leaves wounds no community should ever have to bear.
