MINNEAPOLIS SHOOTER’S MOTHER LAWYERS UP — REFUSES TO TALK TO POLICE

Minneapolis Shooter’s Mother Retains Attorney, Refuses to Speak to Police

Mary Grace Westman, the mother of the Minneapolis school shooter, has formally retained legal counsel as investigators continue to piece together the events leading to the tragic attack at Annunciation Catholic School and Church. Westman has hired attorney Ryan Garry, a Minneapolis lawyer known for representing high-profile clients, including George Floyd protesters.

According to Garry, Westman is “completely distraught” over the events and seeks guidance on navigating the complex legal and emotional aftermath. He emphasized that she does not bear culpability for her child’s actions but requires support in handling the intense public and legal scrutiny surrounding the case.

Authorities have noted that despite conducting dozens of interviews with relatives, friends, and associates, investigators have not yet been able to speak with Westman. Police Chief Brian O’Hara highlighted that her cooperation could provide valuable context, but the mother has so far chosen to exercise her legal rights and remain silent in order to process the shock of the incident with professional assistance.

Westman has a direct connection to the school where the tragedy unfolded. She previously worked at Annunciation Church School, the very institution her child, Robin (formerly Robert), attended before graduating in 2017. Robin later underwent a gender transition, becoming publicly known as Robin. This personal history has added layers of attention and speculation around the family in the wake of the attack.

The school shooting, which left two children dead and 17 others injured, has rocked the Minneapolis community and reignited conversations about school safety, gun control, and the psychological well-being of young people. While the investigation continues, Westman’s decision to secure legal representation reflects both the gravity of the situation and the complex intersection of familial, legal, and societal pressures faced by families of perpetrators.

As police continue their investigation and work to understand the motives and circumstances behind the attack, Westman’s legal team is expected to coordinate carefully with authorities while ensuring her rights and emotional needs are preserved during this deeply traumatic period.
