We became unlikely partners. Jenna showed me how Chloe liked her apples mashed with cinnamon. I showed Jenna the little dance that calmed her during teething. We disagreed sometimes, especially when my protective instincts became controlling. Jenna would gently remind me, “I’m her mother, Margaret.”
