Michael Bublé leaves his hero Barry Gibb misty eyed during singalong on heartbreaking Bee Gees ballad in tribute to Barry and his late and dearly missed brothers

During the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors, singer Michael Bublé delivered a poignant musical tribute that left the legendary Bee Gees icon Barry Gibb visibly moved. As Bublé took the stage to perform the classic Bee Gees ballad “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” the audience witnessed a powerful and intimate moment of connection between the two artists. Barry Gibb was seen singing along to the familiar lyrics, his eyes growing misty as he reflected on the music that defined his storied career and his personal life.

The performance served as a heartfelt homage not only to Barry himself but also to his late brothers, Robin, Maurice, and Andy, who have all since passed away. Having previously recorded the song in a studio setting, Bublé chose this specific track as a fitting and deeply personal tribute to his musical hero. The emotional weight of the song, which explores themes of profound loss and lingering heartache, resonated deeply throughout the venue, effectively bridging the gap between the performer on stage and the icon watching from the audience. It was clear to all in attendance that this was an incredibly significant moment for both the singer and the legend he was honoring.

Originally released on May 28, 1971, as the lead single from the album Trafalgar, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart” holds a significant and historic place in the Bee Gees’ catalog. The song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb together over the course of a single afternoon, a collaborative effort that marked the end of a strained period of hiatus for the band. It eventually became the group’s first number one hit in the United States, while also reaching the top spot in Canada and Malaysia. Its legacy was further cemented by the group’s own memorable live performances, including a notable rendition during their 1997 One Night Only concert in Las Vegas, which showcased the unique vocal harmony of the three brothers.
