At the Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers commanded attention before uttering a word. His entrance and roguish grin prompted Parton to beam, leave her seat and celebrate. Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, Reba McEntire, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill were also among the participating artists.

McEntire began the tribute with a story about Parton, while Underwood launched the musical performance. When Rogers arrived, he and Underwood sang “Islands in the Stream,” with Underwood taking the sections associated with Parton.

Throughout the duet, Rogers and Underwood performed with warmth and affection. They directed their attention toward Parton while singing, creating a sweet moment during the event.

Other performances drew from songs written by Parton. Krauss took on “Jolene,” and Gill presented “I Will Always Love You.” At 13:21 in the video, Twain gave an intimate acoustic performance of “Coat of Many Colors,” which the source described as especially affecting.
